Dr. Jill Abram, a distinguished board-certified psychiatrist from Indiana, has devoted 38 years to the field of psychiatry with a specialized focus on child and adolescent mental health. Throughout her impactful career, she has left a lasting positive mark on countless individuals. Her journey in psychiatry began with a pivotal role at the Homeless Mobile Team at Midtown Mental Center in Indianapolis, where she worked from 1988 to 1990. She continued her dedicated service as a psychiatrist for the Child Team for Mental Health in Anderson, Indiana, where she was instrumental from 1990 to 1996.

In 1996, she transitioned into private practice in Fishers, Indiana, and concurrently held the position of psychiatrist at Pleasant Run Children's Home, a notable orphanage in Indianapolis. She extended her private practice to Anderson, Indiana, where she practiced for nearly seven more years. During this period, she also served as the adolescent psychiatrist at Northeast Juvenile Correctional Facility and Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility, and she offered her expertise as a psychiatric consulting physician at Fortville Christian Youth Home.

Her extensive career also includes her practice in Indianapolis, where she worked as a psychiatrist at the Counseling Center Christian Theological Seminary and Family Counseling Center. She also undertook the role of consulting adolescent psychiatrist at Richmond State Hospital and collaborated with the Medical Staff at Community Hospitals of Indianapolis.

Furthermore, Dr. Abram was a consultant at the Boys and Girls Home of Alaska and a key member of the medical team at North Star Hospital in Anchorage. Her influence extended to Peru, Kokomo, and Logansport, Indiana, through her work with Four County Counseling Center, where she helped launch psychiatric telemedicine services.

Notable Elective Experiences


Dr. Abram's contributions include consulting with the Department of Mental Health to devise a system of coordinated care alongside the Department of Education and the Department of Families and Children. She also provided consultancy services to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center and engaged in the Conscience Development Research and Study Group and the Trauma and Dissociation Study Group.

Academic Experience and Accolades


Jill Abram graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. from Hanover College, the oldest private college in Indiana, majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Biology and Psychology. Her academic achievements earned her the "Long Citation for Outstanding Senior Woman" for her exceptional scholarship and community service.

She pursued her medical education at Indiana University School of Medicine, which included a significant research component. Her representation of Indiana University at the National Juvenile Diabetes Association and receipt of the Academic Medicine Achievement Award highlighted her consistent academic excellence.

Her residency and fellowship training included a period at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana, in Family Practice from June 1986-87, and at Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry (PGY-2, PGY-3, PGY-4) from June 1987 to June 1990. Her contributions to medical education were recognized in 1990 with the Golden Apple Award. She completed her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, from June 1995 to June 1996.

Dr. Abram has authored publications in the Journal of Endocrinology and the Journal of Diabetes.

Licensures and Board Certifications


Before retiring, Dr. Abram maintained licenses in Indiana and Alaska. She is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and has been a long-standing member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry since June 1991.
